Yeah, I kind of like that Springfield. It's the "Loaded" model, but it's just a parkerized finish - not as nice as a stainless pistol, or a finish like Colt's "Royal Blue," or Kimber's "Kimpro" finish, but it is an honest, working man's .45, and it shoots real well.

There's a lot to be said about the different AK and SKS variants - among which is a high degree of reliability. A lot of people swear by them for SHTF work, For me, it's just that I came into EBRs from a long habit of shooting heavy barreled accurized .308 bolt action rifles, so I'm kind of a stickler for accuracy, and the ARs are very accurate platforms, if a bit finickier than the Soviet stuff. That said, if you just take care of them, and clean them when you're done shooting, they aren't dangerously fussy. You just don't want to bury them in sand without first wrapping them in plastic. An AK will eat "SANDwiches" all day long and beg for more.

Are you a Mosin Nagant man?

I do like Mosin's for their practicality. I like the idea of getting a gun and 1000 rds for $250 (that can kill something larger than a squirrel).

Don't discount your wife's abilities. Most women actually are better natural shooters than men, and they tend not to come with pre-conceived notions about how it should be done, so they tend to be more teachable than men.

Yeah, my wife on her first practice ever shot the nuts off her target, that's right, OFF!!!!! :o  Lesson learned:

Always be on her good side! ;)

I didn't see the target with nuts, but consider me officially on notice.

Just curious... maybe we need a gun section to all of this... I'm into gun porn too! :D

I have a loaded medium ALICE ruck as a BOB and you could not ask for better... not Gucci but gets the job done.

Pistol... .45 Brolin Govt Model... LE special by John Evans with all of the 'combat modifications' for about $1000.00 cheaper than a Springfield (at least when I bought it)... only thing added was ambidextrous safety... bitch being left handed...

Rifle... AK all the way... with a few 'modifications' gets the job done and more...

Pack gun... M6 survival rifle in .22/.410... Entire 'kit' fits into the back section of the ruck... Ammo stored in the stock 17/10... If I can't get 'home' on that, well...........

I have a small 'get home' kit packed in a cheap box store backpack that stays in my truck. If someone sees it, it won't attract attention. Some energy bars, a couple bottles of water, a very simple FAK and a couple of weapons. Hopefully, if I'm away from home, this will get me back.

I have a complete BOB assembled and ready to go, here at the house. After assessing the local situation, I will decide whether to bug out or not. If I need to leave, I have routes scouted to drive out of here and routes scouted to melt into melt into the countryside if I have to leave on foot. I am fortunate enough to live at the edge of this community and have some quickie shelter spots scouted out which are less than an hour's walk from here. I'm hoping to be able to recon my home after a couple days, with an eye to slipping back in here.

Time will tell what all of us will be doing. I hope all of you are preparing for all possibilities.
