This is probably my favorite, alternative/conspiracy topic. Or rather, cryptozoological topic. What do you guys think? Real or Hoax?

You know, I'd be inclined to believe that it was probably a hoax, but the only thing that catches me up is that Native Americans have been talking about bigfoot long before us.

My brother also claims to have had an "experience" in Philmont, New Mexico while hiking with Boy Scouts...in half the troop spoke of it.

Just before reaching their camping spot one night, there was the sound of something rather large in the bushes ahead of them, and they claimed that you could tell whatever it was was walking parallel to the trail for a hundred yards or so. My brother told me that he wouldnt have been worried, probably would have thought it was a bear except for the smell. According to him there was a pungent odor in the air, something like a wet dog had rolled in feces and been allowed to dry.

Needless to say, I dont think many of the troop members got much sleep that night.

Yeah. What gets me too are the remoteness of the encounters/evidence. Here are two examples.

1. Finding footprints in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Northwest, where, if it was a hoax, someone would have to walk 100s of miles with the hope of someone eventually stumbling over them.

2. There was a Tulsa news crew that went with 2 guys that had an encounter in SE Oklahoma, back to the spot where it had occurred the previous year. They drove several miles down rural roads, with no other houses around and finally got out of their truck and walked the last mile or so. When they got near the spot, they noticed that something was throwing rocks at them from the top of the hill. I realize, it could have been a setup, but it seemed genuine.

I was backpacking in the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico back in the mid-1970s and had a similar experience, and it did turn out to be a mama bear and her cub... ...and they STINK! But it was definitely bears. Scared the crap outta me.

The forestry service has issued this advisory:
Bear Advisory

The Forest Service has issued a BEAR WARNING in the national forests for this summer. They're urging everyone to protect themselves by wearing bells and carrying pepper spray.

Campers should be alert for signs of fresh bear activity, and they should be able to tell the difference between Black Bear dung and Grizzy Bear dung.

Black Bear dung is rather small and round. Sometimes you can see fruit seeds and/or squirrel fur in it.

Grizzly Bear dung has bells in it, and smells like pepper spray!

There was no word on whether or not Bigfoot likes his food spicy or not.

   Nice

I was thinking the "advisory" was serious, of course, until the last sentence.

Back to my bros story, at the time of hearing this, I was young and quite prone to believe what I heard.

I'd bet a dollar to a dog terd now, that it was a bear or some sort of local wildlife.

Ya got me though, hook line and sinker
